Questions
- What is the difference between an invoice and a receipt?
- An invoice asks for payment. A receipt confirms that payment was received. Send the receipt after the client has paid.
- Can I make a receipt for an invoice that was paid?
- Yes. Mark the invoice as paid in My invoices, open it, and choose Make a receipt for this invoice. The lines and client are copied, and the receipt refers to the invoice number.
- Can I write a receipt for a cash payment?
- Yes. Put “Cash” in the Paid by box. The receipt shows the date paid and the amount received.
- Do receipts get their own numbers?
- Yes. Receipts are numbered REC-0001, REC-0002 and so on, separately from invoices. You can change the number to any format you like.
