How it compares with “free” invoicing programs
Most free plans are the first step into a subscription. Here is what a typical one gives you.
| Typical free plan | Fair Invoice | |
|---|---|---|
| Invoices | A few a month, or capped by your turnover | Unlimited |
| Account | Sign up with email or Google | None |
| Estimates and quotes | Often on a paid plan | Included |
| Your invoices are stored | On the company’s servers | On your device, exportable any time |
| Branding on your invoice | Often the program’s name or an ad | One small “Made with Fair Invoice” line |
| Bookkeeping and VAT returns | Included in accounting programs | Not included: export a spreadsheet for your bookkeeping |
Questions
- Is it actually free?
- Yes. Make, save and download as many invoices and estimates as you like. There is no trial that turns into a subscription and no limit on the number of invoices.
- Why is it free?
- Because it costs almost nothing to run. There are no accounts and no database: the site is a set of plain pages, and your invoices are made and stored by your own browser. A small “Made with Fair Invoice” line on the PDF helps other people find it. If paid extras ever come, they will be additions: what you can do free today stays free, and your invoices are always yours to export.
- Do I need an account?
- No. Open the page and start typing. There is nothing to sign up for and no password to forget.
- Where are my invoices stored?
- In your browser, on your device. They are never uploaded to a server. Use Back up in My invoices to download a copy, and Restore to load it in another browser.
- Can I add my logo, tax number and bank details?
- Yes. Fill them in once; they are remembered for every new invoice in this browser.
- Which currencies and tax rates are supported?
- Over twenty currencies, and any tax rate per line. Name the tax whatever your country calls it: VAT, GST, sales tax, moms, IVA.
- Can I make a quote, estimate or offer first?
- Yes. Switch the document to Estimate and choose whether it is called an estimate, a quote or an offer. When the client accepts, choose Convert to invoice. The original stays in your list.
- Can clients pay online from the invoice?
- Add a payment link from Stripe, PayPal, MobilePay or your bank. It prints on the invoice with a QR code the client can scan with their phone.
- Can I send the invoice from my phone?
- Yes. On phones that support it, Share sends the PDF straight to Mail, Messages, WhatsApp or any other app.
- Will my invoice be valid in my country?
- Above the preview, a checklist shows what your invoice still needs in your country, such as a VAT, CVR or ABN number or the client’s address. See what an invoice must include, country by country, at /invoice-requirements.
- Can I see who still owes me?
- Yes. My invoices shows what is outstanding, what is overdue and what you have been paid this year. For a late invoice, Send reminder opens your own email app with a polite reminder in the invoice’s language, ready to send.
